A Terrible Accident for a Child
On April 26, 2008 a young boy and his little brother attended what was supposed to be a two hour course to experiment and witness chemical phenomena and biological sequences. A course that increases their knowledge, “expands their fantasy - it fizzles and puffs, it stinks and smoulders, it bubbles and sticks, it’s fragrant and tastes”… for two boys aged 8 and 10 it would be a great way to spend a few hours on a Saturday morning.
The excitement for them rapidly ended when Leon, the big brother, was caught in the middle of an unforeseen “low speed detonation” and was suddenly in flames. Paramedics arrived on the scene quickly to rush him to the local hospital where he was then flown by helicopter to the first special clinic for treatment. Hours later, he was transferred again by helicopter to one of the best burn clinics in Germany where he is receiving excellent treatment and 24 hour care.
How this accident happened is still unclear. What is clear is that the accident was caused by ethyl alcohol mixing with other substances to cause an explosion.
This blog is intended for friends and family to contribute their best wishes to Leon in his battle back to health and on his journey over the next few months. The goal is to keep Leon smiling and remind him that we are here to offer love, strength and energy to him and his family during this difficult time.
